What is Natural Eyesight Improvement? Natural Eyesight Improvement, or natural vision improvement, is a process of relearning to see by addressing the causes of poor vision, rather than treating the symptoms. The approach taken is to give the student the knowledge necessary to acquire the essential habits to relax the muscles of the actual eyeball, thereby relieving the strain that causes poor eyesight. How long does this take? As my teacher used to say, “As long as you like!” Each student progresses at their own pace and, joking aside, will depend upon the student’s ability to apply the vision habits to their daily life. I’ve had students notice a change in one lesson and others taking longer. It really involves taking what one learns on an intellectual level and turning it into a daily habit. Do you have any testimonials? Yes! Please see the end of this page. Do I still wear glasses while I’m improving my vision? Bates suggested that students throw away their glasses and found that they were able to improve their vision quite quickly. This is more difficult in today’s society, though it can, and sometimes is, done. When a person is given a prescription for glasses it is usually at a strength to achieve 20/20 vision. Most Bates students have found that if they reduce the power of their lenses they have greater strides in their improvement. It is important to remember that driving has different requirements in each state with usually 20/40 being acceptable. It is up to the student to find out this information and to make a decision for themselves as to what strength is comfortable for them. As vision improves and these reduced lenses become 20/20 Bates students will reduce again, and again………… This process is advantageous because it gives the eyes room for improvement. The usual eyeglass prescription is like a child wearing shoes that fit right to the ends of their feet and not giving them room to grow or stretch their toes. Who would benefit from Natural Eyesight Improvement Classes? Anyone with eyeballs who has visual acuity! Very little of how we see has to do with our eyes, and much has to do with our mind, so this could be called Natural Life Improvement Classes. I say “anyone with eyeballs” because it can benefit the person with perfect sight in teaching them how to retain their vision and lead a healthy lifestyle, as well as the person who is nearsighted, farsighted, has presbiopia, astigmatism, strabismus, amblyopia, those under doctors care for eye diseases (cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, retinitis pigmentosa), and basically people of all ages and conditions. Are there specific exercises, which are necessary? No! As I ask my students, “What happens to your body when you stop exercising?” This is about making life changes: changing the habits of how one moves and thinks, in order to move and think as a person who has good vision habits. Re-learning to see! Is natural vision improvement an alternative to lasik? Natural eyesight improvement is a conscious choice for those who would prefer to learn the causes of poor vision rather than treating a symptom, and then have the knowledge to apply those principles. I am simply an educator and do not make decisions for my students, but teach them how to improve their vision themselves. I had my eyes examined yesterday. My left eye went from 5.25 to 4.75 and my right eye went from 4.75 to 4.25. I told my eye doctor about your class and she said, 'Looks like something's working.'" Jane "The double vision from the cataract in my right eye has gone away. Things are much clearer. More detail." Larry "I love driving home after class. Everything is so crystal clear." McKay
